2016 Block 22 Syrah

For this reserve offering, we employ a rare winemaking technique where the Syrah is destemmed and crushed directly into brand new 59-gallon French oak barrels. The barrel was used as both the fermentation and the ageing vessel. The fruit was cold-soaked for four days prior to each barrel being hand inoculated. Three to five punchdowns daily helped to extract flavors and tannins from the fruit and the oak. After fermentation, the wine was drained and returned back to the same barrels it was fermented in, as well as two once-used 600L Taransaud Puncheons. This full-bodied wine has a velvety texture with aromas of olallieberry pie, graphite, and blueberries. Rich on the palate, our Reserve Syrah has flavors of black fruit with good structure and firm yet silky tannins.

Enjoy this wine with slow-cooked meats, roasted and braised beef or any special occasion.

2016 Cuvée Alice

When Hansjörg Wyss bought this historic property, he named it Halter Ranch in honor of his mother, Alice Halter. With this reserve blend of Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah, and Tannat, we are honoring her once again with the name Cuvée Alice. This balanced and well-structured wine has aromas of strawberries, raspberries, and cranberries with flavors of fresh and dried cherries and pomegranates. Vibrant and bright on the palate, supple tannins lead to a long, elegant finish. Cuvée Alice will age beautifully for years to come.

This versatile wine pairs well with vegetarian dishes, chicken, pork or wild game.

2016 Petit Verdot

Petit Verdot is one of the six red grape varietals that are allowed to be grown in Bordeaux, and its name loosely translates to “little green one” a reference to its late ripening behavior. Petit Verdot thrives in warm climates, and although it is traditionally used in small amounts for blending, in 2016 we had some exceptional vineyard blocks that were just so good we decided to bottle a limited production on its own. Petit Verdot is known for its color, structure, and tannins, and this wine lives up to these attributes. This offering has aromas of black cherry, blackberries, and butterscotch that lead to flavors of licorice and sarsaparilla.

Enjoy this wine with roasted lamb dishes, barbecued short ribs or bold meats.

2016 Tannat

Tannat is generally associated with the Madiran region of France at the foothills of the Pyrénées Mountains, and it is also the national grape of Uruguay. Although typically used as a blending component at Halter Ranch, we additionally produce a limited quantity of a single varietal Tannat for our Silver Label Club. This wine opens with aromas of black cherry, hazelnuts, and caramel with flavors of blackberries, cocoa powder and chocolate truffles.

Pairs beautifully with roasted and grilled lamb or beef, or slow-cooked meat with reduction sauces.

2016 Tempranillo

Tempranillo is a varietal indigenous to Spain, and its name is derived from the Spanish word temprano, meaning early, a reference to the fact that Tempranillo often ripens weeks before its other red grape counterparts. This wine has aromas of cloves, boysenberry, and incense with rustic flavors of red and black currants and a hint of forest floor. Great acidity and a bright linear palate lead to a long, structured finish. Although this wine can be enjoyed right away, we feel great about its ageing potential, and we recommend laying it down for a future special occasion.

Enjoy this wine with roasted meats, charcuterie, and Spanish cuisine.
