Tasting notes

Petit Verdot is one of the six red grape varietals that are allowed to be grown in Bordeaux, and its name loosely translates to “little green one” a reference to its late ripening behavior. Petit Verdot thrives in warm climates, and although it is traditionally used in small amounts for blending, in 2016 we had some exceptional vineyard blocks that were just so good we decided to bottle a limited production on its own. Petit Verdot is known for its color, structure, and tannins, and this wine lives up to these attributes. This offering has aromas of black cherry, blackberries, and butterscotch that lead to flavors of licorice and sarsaparilla.

Enjoy this wine with roasted lamb dishes, barbecued short ribs or bold meats.  

Production notes

Harvest Dates:
Petit Verdot - Block 50: 9/22/16, Block 48: 10/4/16, Block 49: 10/4/16                                      

Fermentation: Destemmed and fermented in closed top fermentors, with delestage daily for the first few days of fermentation followed by open pump-overs two to three times daily for an average of 16 days.

Aging: Aged 18 months in French oak barrels, 60% of which were new oak.
